Patna District Magistrate Reviews LPG Supply, Orders Strict Action Against Irregularities
In a decisive move to ensure smooth LPG supply and distribution, District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M conducted a comprehensive review with officials on Sunday. The meeting focused on addressing critical issues such as black marketing, hoarding, and overcharging of LPG cylinders, which have been causing significant inconvenience to consumers in the region.
Immediate Actions and Directives Issued
The District Magistrate issued clear directives for strict legal action against those involved in malpractices. Authorities have been instructed to lodge First Information Reports (FIRs) and arrest individuals found guilty of irregularities. This proactive approach aims to curb illegal activities and protect consumer interests effectively.
Officials, including Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) and Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), are actively conducting inspections and raids at LPG distributor points. Simultaneously, they are gathering direct feedback from consumers to identify and resolve grievances promptly. This dual strategy ensures both enforcement and consumer engagement are prioritized.
Deployment of Raid Teams and Legal Measures
To strengthen monitoring and prevention efforts, the administration has deployed as many as 28 raid teams led by supply officials. These teams are operating at the block-level across the district, specifically targeting hoarding and unauthorized stockpiling of LPG cylinders.
The administration has issued a stern warning that the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) will be invoked against offenders. This legal provision allows for stringent penalties, including imprisonment, to deter violations and maintain essential service continuity.
Helpline for Consumer Complaints
To facilitate easy reporting of issues, a district helpline (0612-2219810) has been made operational. Consumers can register complaints from 9 am to 6 pm daily. This initiative is designed to enhance transparency and ensure swift redressal of supply-related problems.
The review and subsequent actions underscore the administration's commitment to safeguarding public welfare and ensuring equitable access to essential commodities like LPG. By combining rigorous enforcement with consumer-centric measures, Patna aims to stabilize supply chains and eliminate exploitative practices in the market.
