Patna DM Reviews Traffic & Encroachment Measures

Patna Administration Intensifies Efforts to Combat Traffic Congestion and Encroachment

In a significant move to address urban mobility challenges, District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M chaired a high-level review meeting on Saturday. The session focused on implementing robust measures to tackle persistent traffic congestion and encroachment issues plaguing the city.

Key Directives and Anti-Encroachment Drives

The administration has issued clear instructions for immediate anti-encroachment drives targeting critical areas, including Nehru Path, Gandhi Maidan, and Ashok Rajpath. These locations have been identified as hotspots for illegal occupation, contributing significantly to traffic bottlenecks.

DM Thiyagarajan emphasized the strict enforcement of one-way traffic rules and the closure of unnecessary road cuts to streamline vehicular movement. Additionally, he directed officials to expedite the installation of escalator-equipped foot-over-bridges, enhancing pedestrian safety and reducing road crossings.

Leveraging Technology for Traffic Management

A cornerstone of the new strategy is the deployment of an integrated traffic management system. This advanced network, equipped with 3,300 surveillance cameras, will be utilized for real-time monitoring and issuing penalties for violations. The system aims to enhance compliance through continuous oversight.

Regulations will specifically target the control of e-rickshaw movement, curbing illegal parking, and checking overspeeding. These measures are designed to create a more orderly and safer traffic environment.

Inter-Departmental Coordination and Infrastructure Development

The District Magistrate stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination to seamlessly integrate upcoming Patna Metro services and expand CNG-based public transport options. This holistic approach seeks to provide sustainable alternatives to private vehicle usage.

Priority tasks outlined during the meeting include the creation of designated vending zones to prevent street encroachment, widening key arterial roads to increase capacity, and clearly marking zebra crossings to protect pedestrians.

Zero-Tolerance Policy and Public Safety

The administration reiterated its zero-tolerance stance towards traffic violations and encroachments. This firm approach is intended to ensure public safety and significantly improve urban mobility across Patna. Officials have been tasked with implementing these directives promptly to achieve tangible results in the coming months.
