Patna District Administration Launches Comprehensive Fire Safety Initiative for Summer Months
In a proactive move to address heightened fire risks during the summer season, District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M has issued detailed directives to district officials in Patna. The administration has mandated the implementation of robust fire preventive measures and extensive public awareness campaigns throughout the critical fire-prone period spanning from March 15 to June 15.
Enhanced Emergency Response Infrastructure
The Patna district administration has strategically deployed a formidable fleet of 88 firefighting vehicles and dedicated personnel across nine strategically located stations. These resources will remain on 24-hour high alert throughout the summer months to ensure an exceptionally swift emergency response. The target is to maintain a rigorous two-minute response time, crucial for mitigating damage during the peak fire season when strong westerly winds significantly elevate the risk of both agricultural and residential fires.
Standard operating procedures have been reinforced, requiring circle officers and sub-divisional officers to immediately reach fire incident sites. Their primary responsibilities include coordinating relief efforts and ensuring that government assistance—comprising essential items like polythene sheets and financial grants—is delivered to affected citizens within a strict 24-hour window following any incident.
Advanced Firefighting Equipment and Logistics
The district fire department boasts a sophisticated arsenal to combat blazes. This inventory includes three high-capacity 12,000-litre water bowsers, 22 standard water tenders, and 39 versatile mixed-technology vehicles. Furthermore, the department is equipped with five hydraulic platforms for accessing elevated areas, five specialized foam tenders for tackling chemical or electrical fires, and 12 agile firefighting motorbikes capable of navigating congested urban lanes.
Preventive Measures and Public Safety Guidelines
A multi-departmental approach has been adopted to prevent fire outbreaks. Electrical engineers have received strict instructions to maintain all overhead power lines at a minimum clearance height of 12 feet. This clearance is vital to allow unimpeded access for fire trucks through Patna's often narrow streets and alleyways.
At the grassroots level, panchayat officials are tasked with ensuring every village maintains basic firefighting equipment at designated public locations. This mandatory village kit must include fire beaters, water storage tanks, buckets, ropes, and axes, providing first-response capabilities in remote areas.
The administration has disseminated clear public safety advisories for residents. Citizens are advised to complete cooking activities before winds intensify in the afternoon and to thoroughly extinguish hearths with water. Additional precautions include turning off gas regulators when not in use, avoiding loose-fitting clothing near open flames, and refraining from using elevator lifts during fire emergencies.
Strict safety protocols have been established, prohibiting:
- Leaving open flames or cooking fires unattended.
- Transporting flammable materials on public transportation systems.
- Conducting harvesting operations near village boundaries; such activities must be performed at night and at a safe distance from residential areas.
