Patna Launches Major Anti-Encroachment Drive, Traffic Review

Patna Commissioner Issues Strict Directives for City Cleanup and Traffic Control

Divisional Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar has taken decisive action to address urban chaos in Patna. During a crucial meeting held on Saturday, he issued clear instructions to officials for an immediate anti-encroachment drive across the city.

Immediate Actions Ordered for Traffic Management

Parashar emphasized the administration's commitment to monitoring the transport system. He revealed that authorities are actively using the integrated command and control centre alongside the district control room for this purpose.

The commissioner issued a specific order regarding T-points throughout Patna. He mandated the establishment of strict no-vending and no-parking zones within a 100-metre radius of all these intersections.

Officials received a tight deadline of just three days to install proper signage at these locations. Parashar made it clear that disciplinary action would follow against any officers failing to enforce these new zones effectively.

Major Routes Targeted for Clearance

The directive requires the immediate removal of various obstructions from key arterial roads. Officials must clear carts, shops, and unauthorized vehicles from several important routes including:

  • Budh Marg
  • Lodipur
  • Patna Junction
  • Saguna More
  • Beur More

The administration plans to seize vehicles parked for sale on public roads. Night operations will specifically target unauthorized parking that clogs the city's pathways after dark.

Pedestrian Safety Takes Priority

Parashar stressed a fundamental principle during the meeting. He insisted that footpaths must remain completely clear for pedestrians to use safely.

To improve pedestrian facilities, sub-divisional officers received an interesting task. They must form advocacy groups in collaboration with housing societies. These groups will collect valuable feedback from residents about walking conditions in their neighborhoods.

Recent Enforcement Results and Technological Support

Authorities have already demonstrated their commitment through recent actions. Over the last six months, they collected substantial fines totaling over Rs 50 lakh for encroachment violations.

Traffic violations brought in an additional Rs 61 lakh during the same period. Police seized approximately 1,000 items and registered FIRs against 100 individuals involved in these infractions.

The Patna Smart City project provides significant technological support for these efforts. The city now boasts 3,300 CCTV cameras strategically placed across 415 locations.

These cameras perform multiple functions including detecting red-light violations, recognizing vehicle number plates, and monitoring vehicle speeds throughout the city.

Public address systems operate at 69 different sites. These systems broadcast important traffic announcements to keep citizens informed about road conditions and regulations.

Daily Reviews Ensure Implementation

District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M and Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena confirmed ongoing oversight. They stated that dedicated teams conduct daily reviews of all enforcement activities.

This systematic approach ensures that the commissioner's directives translate into visible improvements on Patna's streets. The administration appears determined to transform the city's traffic management and public space usage.
