Patna PMC Intensifies Sanitation Drive for Monsoon Preparedness

Patna Municipal Corporation Ramps Up Sanitation Efforts for Monsoon Season

The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has significantly escalated its sanitation and monsoon preparedness operations, initiating a comprehensive drive from Friday. Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena has established stringent accountability measures for zonal inspectors across all nineteen administrative zones, focusing on efficient waste management and drainage system maintenance.

Strict Accountability for Zonal Inspectors

Under the new directives, zonal inspectors are now directly responsible for monitoring designated garbage dumping points, ensuring regular cleaning of these sites, and managing the timely removal of silt extracted from drainage channels. This move aims to create a more organized and responsive sanitation framework ahead of the challenging monsoon period.

Targeted Waste Removal Strategy

Inspectors have received specific instructions to identify one major road and its connecting streets within each ward on a daily basis, ensuring complete removal of construction and demolition waste. To enhance transparency and track progress effectively, the PMC is utilizing an online portal where GPS-tagged photographs of these sites are uploaded regularly.

Supplementing these daytime efforts are special night-time drives specifically designed to clear accumulated building materials and debris that might obstruct drainage systems during heavy rains.

Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign Achievements

Simultaneously, the PMC has successfully transformed eighty-five identified cleanliness target units through the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. The cleaning operations have been strategically distributed across various municipal circles with notable achievements:

  • New Capital Circle: 26 points cleared
  • Patliputra Circle: 18 points cleared
  • Bankipore Circle: 11 points cleared
  • Kankarbagh, Patna City, and Azimabad Circles: 10 points cleared each

Persistent Challenges in Waste Management

Despite existing door-to-door residential collection services and road-to-road non-residential waste management systems, the PMC continues to face significant challenges. The primary issue involves waste being illegally dumped in open plots and drainage channels by residents and businesses alike.

While the corporation successfully eliminated approximately 650 garbage points in previous initiatives, new dumping sites continue to emerge regularly, creating an ongoing sanitation concern.

Accountability Measures and Citizen Engagement

The PMC has issued a stern warning that negligence by municipal officials will result in immediate disciplinary action. To improve service delivery and responsiveness, citizens are encouraged to report any service failures or missed garbage collection vehicles by calling the designated toll-free number provided by the municipal corporation.

This comprehensive approach combines technological monitoring through the online portal, targeted cleaning operations, strict accountability for officials, and active citizen participation to create a more effective sanitation system as Patna prepares for the upcoming monsoon season.
