Patna Municipal Corporation Intensifies Campaign Against Single-Use Plastic
The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) launched a comprehensive awareness initiative on Saturday, targeting educational institutions and commercial hubs to combat the use of single-use plastic and enhance waste management protocols across the city.
Educational Outreach at Government Middle School Mithapur
During a dedicated program at Government Middle School Mithapur, PMC officials engaged with students to educate them on the critical importance of source segregation and the detrimental environmental impacts of plastic waste. The session emphasized practical steps for reducing plastic consumption and properly managing household and institutional waste.
The PMC has mandated the establishment of a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) center within the school premises. This facility will serve as a collection and redistribution point for reusable items, including:
- Books and educational materials
- Clothing and textiles
- Bags and containers
This initiative aims to instill sustainable habits among young learners while promoting a circular economy model at the grassroots level.
Market Inspections in Bankipur Zone
Simultaneously, in the Bankipur zone, PMC officials conducted thorough inspections at the Machhua Toli vegetable market. Shopkeepers and vendors were instructed to immediately phase out plastic bags and transition to eco-friendly alternatives such as jute or cloth bags.
Additionally, vendors were directed to install twin bins at their stalls to ensure effective segregation of wet and dry waste at the source. This measure is designed to streamline waste collection and processing, reducing contamination and improving overall sanitation standards.
Citywide Initiative for Public Participation
These activities are part of a broader citywide campaign spanning all six municipal zones of Patna. The primary objectives of this initiative include:
