PM Modi inaugurates Sachivalaya to Mahatma Mandir Metro line

In a significant boost to urban infrastructure in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Metro rail corridor connecting Sachivalaya to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar on Sunday evening. The event marks the completion of the second phase of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro service, creating a seamless public transport link between the state's major city and its capital.

A Landmark Inauguration Ceremony

The Prime Minister, accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and Governor Acharya Devvrat, formally flagged off the first Metro train from the Mahatma Mandir station. PM Modi arrived at the Ahmedabad airport on Sunday evening and proceeded directly to the inauguration site, where he was greeted by enthusiastic crowds lining the roads.

A large gathering of citizens, including many students, had assembled along the route from the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre (MMCC) to the new metro station. The Prime Minister waved to the cheering public before entering the station to perform the inauguration ceremonies.

Enhanced Connectivity for the Capital Region

The opening of this 6.6-kilometer stretch is a pivotal development in the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro project. It successfully links the administrative heart of Gandhinagar at Sachivalaya with the major convention and cultural hub at Mahatma Mandir. This connection finally provides a direct Metro rail link between Ahmedabad and the state capital, significantly improving commute options for residents, government employees, and visitors.

Following the inaugural ceremony, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi took a ride on the new line from Mahatma Mandir station to Sachivalaya. During the journey, they interacted with passengers and students on board, actively seeking their initial feedback on the new service, as per an official statement.

Symbol of Progress and Future Mobility

The completion of Phase II underscores the accelerating pace of metro rail development in Gujarat's key cities. This project is expected to:

  • Reduce traffic congestion on the busy Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar road corridor.
  • Provide a fast, reliable, and eco-friendly mass transit option.
  • Boost economic activity by improving access to government offices and the convention centre.

After the event, Prime Minister Modi departed for Lok Bhavan in Gandhinagar, where he stayed for the night. The successful inauguration of this stretch sets the stage for further expansions of the metro network in the region, promising a transformative impact on urban mobility and connectivity for years to come.
