Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a series of development projects in Hyderabad, hailing Cyberabad as India's growth engine. The projects, worth thousands of crores, are expected to boost infrastructure, employment, and economic activity in the region.
Key Projects Inaugurated
The Prime Minister inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) at Kandi, Sangareddy district. The state-of-the-art campus will accommodate over 10,000 students and faculty. He also laid the foundation stone for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II extension, which will connect the city's IT hub with the international airport.
Cyberabad as Growth Engine
Addressing a public gathering at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, PM Modi said, "Cyberabad has become a symbol of India's technological prowess and economic growth. It is not just a hub for IT companies but also a model for urban development." He highlighted that the region contributes significantly to the nation's GDP and exports.
Other Announcements
The Prime Minister also launched the 'Digital Telangana' initiative aimed at providing high-speed internet connectivity to all villages in the state. Additionally, he announced a new pharmaceutical park in Hyderabad, which is expected to create thousands of jobs and boost the state's pharma sector.
Political Significance
The visit comes ahead of the Telangana assembly elections, with the BJP aiming to make inroads in the state. PM Modi's development push is seen as a strategy to counter the ruling TRS party's narrative of regional development.
Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao were present at the event. The Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister for the projects and urged the central government to release pending funds for the state.
The projects are expected to transform Hyderabad's infrastructure and solidify its position as a global technology hub. The new IITH campus will focus on research in artificial intelligence, robotics, and sustainable energy, aligning with the government's vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.
