Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday, urged citizens to exercise caution amid the intense heatwave sweeping across large parts of India. He also highlighted the benefits of traditional Indian beverages to stay hydrated and healthy during the summer months.
Heatwave Precautions
Modi advised people to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours and to wear light-colored, cotton clothing. He emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and consuming seasonal fruits and vegetables. The Prime Minister also praised the efforts of local bodies and disaster management teams in providing relief to those affected by the heatwave.
Traditional Drinks for Health
In a bid to promote indigenous practices, Modi spoke about the nutritional value of traditional drinks like lassi, buttermilk, aam panna, and nimbu pani. He encouraged people to include these beverages in their daily diet to combat dehydration and boost immunity. The Prime Minister noted that such drinks are not only healthy but also help in preserving the country's culinary heritage.
Appeal to the Youth
Modi also called upon the youth to spread awareness about heatwave safety measures and the benefits of traditional drinks through social media and community initiatives. He urged them to adopt a proactive role in helping the elderly and vulnerable sections of society during the scorching summer.
The Prime Minister's address comes as several states in India are grappling with extreme temperatures, leading to an increase in heat-related illnesses. The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for severe heatwave conditions in parts of northwest and central India over the next few days.
