A high-level review meeting was conducted on Friday at Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj, where additional chief secretary (health and medical education) Amit Ghosh evaluated healthcare services, infrastructure, and manpower availability.
Detailed Presentation and Assessment
Principal of the medical college, Dr. VK Pandey, presented a comprehensive report outlining the facilities, future plans, and gaps in human resources across the college and its associated hospitals. These include Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, Manohar Das Eye Hospital, and the children’s hospital.
Despite the ongoing heatwave, the ACS appreciated the management for efficiently handling an outpatient load of approximately 3,000 patients daily. He emphasized the critical need for proper maintenance of medical equipment and directed that a competent agency be engaged for regular inspections and timely repairs to prevent service disruptions.
Inspection of Critical Care Facilities
Ghosh inspected the catheterization laboratory (cath lab) and reviewed procedures performed by the cardiology department. He stressed the importance of strengthening critical care services, improving hostel facilities, and ensuring better overall hospital management. Officials were directed to prepare a comprehensive roadmap to enhance patient care, according to Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh, media incharge of the college and SRN hospital.
Staffing and Expansion Plans
The ACS further instructed that adequate paramedical and nursing staff be made available as per requirements. He also agreed to a phased expansion plan to increase the capacity of Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital to 2,000 beds.
Gap Analysis and Academic Focus
Additionally, Ghosh requested a detailed gap analysis report to be submitted soon, enabling necessary approvals and follow-up actions. He emphasized the need to strengthen academic activities within the institution, highlighting the importance of quality medical education alongside efficient healthcare delivery.
