Pune's Registration Bhavan Nears Completion, Set to Open by End of February

In Pune, the eagerly awaited eight-storeyed Registration Bhavan on Bund Garden Road is poised to commence operations by the end of February, marking the culmination of a project that has spanned over three years. Officials have confirmed that the construction has entered its final stages, with finishing touches being applied to ensure a timely launch.

Official Statements and Key Features

Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Ravindra Binawade expressed optimism on Monday, stating, "We are hopeful that the building will become operational by the end of this month." Once functional, the new facility will serve as a centralized hub for critical services, housing the offices of the IGR Pune, the joint director of town planning, a dedicated call centre, and other allied departments. This consolidation aims to bring all registration and stamp-related services under one roof, significantly enhancing efficiency and accessibility for citizens.

Project Review and Infrastructure Details

Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal recently conducted a thorough review of the project, inspecting various aspects including construction status, office space planning, citizen waiting areas, and parking arrangements. He directed officials to complete the remaining work within the stipulated timeframe while adhering to stringent quality standards. The building, constructed on a 1,421.4 square meter plot at Mauje, Bund Garden, features modern amenities designed to improve public service delivery.

The parking infrastructure is a highlight, with conventional parking available on the ground floor and an advanced automatic mechanical (hydraulic) parking system capable of accommodating 51 four-wheelers. This dual system is expected to ease congestion and provide convenient access for visitors.

Project Timeline and Financial Aspects

The project received administrative approval in January 2021, with work officially launched in 2022 and actual construction commencing in 2023. According to a memorandum issued by the state revenue and forest department on January 21, 2021, administrative sanction of Rs 37.57 crore was granted for the development. Notably, officials have clarified that the entire expenditure is being funded from the Personal Ledger Account (PLA) of the registration and stamps department, rather than through general budgetary allocations, ensuring dedicated financial support.

Current Status and Final Preparations

A senior official from the Public Works Department (PWD), which is overseeing the project, provided an update on the current progress. "The civil structure is complete, and we are now carrying out finishing works, including installation of furniture, fittings, and other internal components. These tasks are in the final stages," the official explained. This focus on interior details underscores the commitment to delivering a fully functional and citizen-friendly facility.

The new Registration Bhavan is anticipated to centralize registration-related offices in Pune, streamlining processes and reducing bureaucratic hurdles for residents. By bringing multiple services together, it aims to foster a more integrated and responsive administrative environment, ultimately benefiting the local community through improved access and reduced wait times.
