In a major initiative to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve civic amenities across the Tricity’s peripheral towns, Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Friday announced a series of time-bound developmental projects for Kharar, Dera Bassi, Zirakpur, Nayagaon, Banur, Kurali and Gharuan.
Reviewing the progress of ongoing works with executive officers here at Municipal Bhawan, the minister directed them to ensure strict adherence to timelines and ordered weekly reviews of all projects.
Road Construction and Beautification
After the review meeting, Bains said more than 250 km of roads were currently under construction across the seven towns and that several major road corridors would also be beautified as part of the drive.
Water Supply and Sanitation
He said sewer desilting operations were being carried out on a large scale.
“To ensure an uninterrupted drinking water supply, 50 new tubewells will be installed across these urban local bodies. Fifteen tubewells will be installed in Kharar, 10 each in Zirakpur and Nayagaon, five in Dera Bassi, four in Lalru, three in Banur and one in Kurali. Sewer desilting work is also being carried out at full pace to improve sanitation services,” he said.
