NER's Varanasi DRM Conducts Surprise Safety Inspection at Sadat & Jakhaniyan Stations
Railway Safety Check in Varanasi During Foggy Weather

In a proactive move to bolster safety protocols during the challenging cold and foggy season, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Varanasi, Ashish Jain, carried out an unannounced inspection at two key stations. The surprise check was conducted on Sunday at Sadat and Jakhaniyan railway stations, which fall on the Varanasi-Bhatni rail section of the North Eastern Railway (NER).

Rigorous Examination of Operational and Safety Systems

The inspection was comprehensive, focusing on the core operational nerve centers of the stations. DRM Ashish Jain meticulously reviewed the functioning of the centralised station panel, the weeder counter, and the critical relay room. A significant part of the audit was dedicated to verifying the status and readiness of essential safety apparatus. This included hands-on checks of the block instrument, axle counter, and data logger to ensure they were functioning flawlessly for smooth and secure train operations.

Furthermore, Jain scrutinized vital station documentation to ensure procedural compliance. He examined records such as the failure register, maintenance register, the relay room key handover register, the points and crossing register, and the station working rules. This thorough review of paperwork is crucial for maintaining an audit trail and ensuring all safety protocols are followed diligently.

Focus on Passenger Amenities and Cleanliness

Moving beyond technical systems, the DRM's inspection also encompassed the facilities used by daily passengers. He took a detailed look at the passenger amenities available at both stations. This involved inspecting the condition of the platforms and paying specific attention to the water booths and RCC benches.

Based on his observations, Ashish Jain issued clear instructions to the station staff regarding the proper management, regular maintenance, and upkeep of cleanliness at these public facilities. Ensuring these amenities are in good order is a key part of enhancing the overall travel experience for the public, especially during the winter months.

Ensuring Winter Readiness and Safety

This surprise inspection underscores the railway administration's heightened focus on safety and operational efficiency during the winter season. Reduced visibility due to fog and cold weather conditions pose unique challenges for rail operations. By personally verifying the readiness of safety equipment, operational controls, and passenger facilities, the DRM's initiative aims to preempt potential issues and ensure a safe, reliable, and comfortable journey for all passengers traversing the Varanasi division of the North Eastern Railway.
