Indian Railways and IIT-Patna Forge Partnership for Advanced Technical Training
In a significant move to bolster technical capabilities, Indian Railways has announced a collaborative two-week advanced training program with the Indian Institute of Technology, Patna (IIT-Patna). This specialized course will be conducted at the IIT-Patna Bihta campus and is set to commence on February 9. The initiative aims to strengthen the technical expertise required for the maintenance and operation of modern train systems across the country.
Program Details and Participant Selection
The in-house training program is designed to accommodate at least 25 railway officials who have been carefully selected from various regions of India. These officials will undergo intensive training to gain advanced technical exposure and hands-on knowledge. The curriculum is specifically tailored to address the upkeep and operational demands of high-speed and next-generation trains, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to handle contemporary railway technologies.
According to Animesh Sinha, Director General of the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE) in Jamalpur, the program is a strategic effort to enhance the skills of railway personnel. "This training will provide our officials with the necessary tools to manage advanced train systems effectively," Sinha stated, emphasizing the program's focus on practical learning and technical proficiency.

The training curriculum will place a strong emphasis on the maintenance of Vande Bharat semi-high-speed trains, as well as other superfast rolling stock such as MEMU electrical units and similar modern train systems. "We are laying emphasis on cutting-edge practices to ensure our trains operate smoothly and safely," Sinha explained. "This includes training on electrical safety and traction systems, which are critical components of modern trainsets." The program marks the first of its kind in India, specifically targeting these advanced areas to build technical capacity in railway traction systems.
