Rajasthan Energy Minister Orders Inquiry into Jaipur Power Disruption

Jaipur: Rajasthan energy minister Hiralal Nagar on Friday ordered an inquiry into the power disruption at the BJP state headquarters during a media interaction by Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday, saying strict action would be taken against those found responsible.

Taking serious note of the incident, Nagar sought a detailed report from officials of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd (RVPN) and Jaipur Discom.

According to officials, the disruption occurred at around 3:57 pm on June 11 when work was underway to rectify an SF-6 gas leakage in the circuit breaker of the 220 kV KTPS line at a 400 kV grid substation. During the process of opening the line isolator, an electrical imbalance led to the tripping of two 250 MVA transformers, affecting power supply to the 220 kV NPH grid substation and the 132 kV substations serving Chambal, Vaishali Nagar, Bhankrota and PWD Bungalow areas.

Officials said power supply in the affected areas was restored within 10 to 17 minutes by diverting load to other available transformers. The two tripped transformers were brought back into operation by 4:21 pm.

“The incident has been taken seriously. A detailed investigation has been ordered to ascertain the exact reasons behind the tripping and to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future,” Nagar said. The minister announced the formation of a committee headed by the additional chief engineer (MPT&S), Jaipur, with the superintendent engineer (Jaipur Rural) and assistant engineer (Protection Engineering) as members.

“If any engineer or official is found responsible for negligence, strict action will be taken against them,” Nagar said.

He said strengthening and improving the reliability of the state’s power supply system remains a priority for the govt.

“We are committed to providing a robust and dependable power supply network across the state. Any lapse affecting consumers or critical events will not be tolerated,” the minister added.
