Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Major Infrastructure Projects in Lucknow
Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh inaugurated the second phase of the Green Corridor project on Friday, while simultaneously laying the foundation stone for phases three and four. He described this development as a significant milestone in enhancing the city's infrastructure, emphasizing that under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership, Lucknow has evolved into a world-class city with tangible improvements visible in the daily lives of its residents.
Praising Yogi Adityanath's Development Approach
Singh highlighted Yogi Adityanath's popular nickname 'Bulldozer Baba,' explaining that this moniker symbolizes more than just demolition. "A bulldozer does not only demolish structures but also prepares the ground for development," he stated. The minister elaborated that by taking decisive action against mafia elements and criminals, and by demolishing illegal properties, valuable land has been liberated and effectively utilized for various development projects across the city.
Substantial Financial Investment in Urban Development
The projects inaugurated and launched under this initiative represent a substantial investment of ₹1,529 crore. Singh extended his congratulations to the people of Lucknow and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the steady progress of these transformative projects. He noted that Lucknow, historically celebrated for its rich culture and heritage, is now gaining recognition for its rapid development and urban growth. The city's evolving infrastructure and enhanced quality of life are attracting attention not only within India but also among the Indian diaspora abroad, positioning Lucknow as an increasingly livable urban center.
Addressing Traffic Congestion and Enhancing Mobility
Focusing specifically on transport infrastructure, Singh acknowledged that Lucknow had previously grappled with severe traffic congestion. This challenge prompted comprehensive efforts to improve road connectivity and alleviate pressure on the city's arterial roads. Key initiatives include:
- The expansion of Amar Shaheed Path
- The construction of multiple flyovers
- The ongoing development of the Lucknow Metro network
- The recent approval of the East-West metro corridor
These projects form part of a broader strategy to modernize urban mobility and create a more efficient transportation ecosystem.
The Green Corridor: A Transformative Project
The Green Corridor project is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing seamless transport and promoting green mobility within the city. The full corridor will span 28 kilometers with an estimated cost exceeding ₹7,000 crore. It will strategically connect Shaheed Path and Kisan Path, passing through several key areas of Lucknow. Singh emphasized that this corridor will significantly reduce travel times, alleviate congestion, and improve the overall commuting experience through beautifully landscaped green stretches.
In a notable environmental commitment, more than 150 trees that were in the path of construction were not cut down but were carefully transplanted to other locations. Singh described this as an important ecological step that balances development with environmental conservation.
Project Phases and Public Benefit
The newly inaugurated second phase stretches from Daliganj bridge to Samta Mulak Chowk, covering a distance of 7 kilometers. This segment is expected to benefit approximately 15 lakh people in the surrounding areas. The subsequent phase will extend the corridor further from Samta Mulak Chowk to Shaheed Path, continuing the expansion of this vital infrastructure.
Inter-Departmental Coordination and Broader Development Initiatives
Singh also highlighted the effective coordination between civil and defence authorities that made this project possible. Defence land was utilized for the scheme following necessary cooperation from the defence ministry, demonstrating successful inter-departmental collaboration.
Beyond the Green Corridor, Singh referenced a comprehensive array of development projects underway in Lucknow, including:
- The upcoming Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway
- Initiatives to boost industrial investment
- Promotion of electric vehicle manufacturing
- Enhancement of defence facilities
- Urban cleanliness and sanitation measures
These multifaceted initiatives are collectively contributing to employment generation, improved transportation networks, and enhanced civic life for Lucknow's residents. Additionally, Singh mentioned that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the School of Planning and Architecture and the Lucknow Development Authority. This partnership aims to prepare a scientific and integrated master plan for the city's long-term, sustainable development.
