Ranchi Collectorate Opens Five New Elevators for Public Relief

Ranchi Collectorate Enhances Accessibility with New Elevator Inauguration

Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri officially inaugurated five new elevators at the Ranchi collectorate on Thursday, marking a significant improvement in accessibility for the hundreds of daily visitors, officials, and staff members. The installation includes two elevators in Block A and three in Block B, addressing long-standing issues that had plagued the facility.

Addressing Public Inconvenience Highlighted by Media Report

The move comes after a report published on January 31 by a leading newspaper drew attention to the severe inconvenience faced by the public due to non-operational lifts. For an extended period, the elevators remained out of service, forcing visitors to use staircases to reach upper floors, often while carrying heavy bundles of documents. This situation posed particular challenges for elderly citizens, persons with disabilities, women, and those traveling from remote areas.

Features and Benefits of the New Elevators

The newly inaugurated elevators are equipped with advanced self-rescue mechanisms designed to assist occupants in reaching the nearest floor safely during power supply disruptions, enabling a secure exit. This feature enhances safety and reliability, ensuring that users are not stranded in emergencies.

During the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Bhajantri emphasized the importance of this upgrade, stating, “A large number of citizens visit the Collectorate daily for various purposes. The new elevators will greatly facilitate people in reaching offices located on different floors. This will provide significant relief, particularly to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women, and visitors travelling from remote areas.”

Impact on Recent Events and Ongoing Improvements

The non-functional elevators had previously caused significant hardship during the recently concluded Ranchi Municipal Corporation election, where supporters and candidates faced difficulties while completing their election processes. The collectorate, as the central hub of district administration, receives thousands of people daily, making this infrastructure upgrade crucial for efficient public service.

In addition to the five elevators now operational, work is currently underway on three additional elevators within the Collectorate complex. These are expected to be completed shortly, further enhancing accessibility and convenience for all users.

This initiative reflects a proactive approach to improving public infrastructure, ensuring that the collectorate can better serve the community with reduced physical barriers and increased efficiency.
