Ranchi: Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) on Thursday announced that it would repair all defunct water filters on the hospital premises, following a report by The Times of India (TOI) that highlighted the inconvenience faced by patients, attendants, and staff due to non-functional drinking water units.
CSR Initiative for Water Filter Restoration
An official communiqué from Rims stated that Minu Marketing Private Limited, in coordination with the institute administration, has agreed to provide support for technical survey, restoration, and maintenance of drinking water units installed on the campus under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The medical superintendent has granted approval to the proposal, and a preliminary survey and technical inspection of drinking water units at various locations within the institute campus has been carried out. The inspection identified 10 drinking water units that can be made operational again through repair, servicing, reconditioning, and replacement of minor technical parts.
Background of the Issue
Notably, TOI on Wednesday highlighted the issue of defunct water taps at Rims, which had been creating inconvenience for patients, attendants, and staff visiting the hospital for months, disrupting access to safe drinking water. Every day, approximately 2,500 to 3,000 patients visit the outpatient departments (OPD) at Rims from various parts of Jharkhand and neighboring states.
Future Plans and Actions
The institute administration stated that in the future, a detailed technical examination of other non-functional units will also be carried out, and a further action plan will be prepared as per requirement. Rims Public Relations Officer Dr. Shishir mentioned on Tuesday that water filters installed at the hospital were damaged by some anti-social elements. He added, "The administration has started the process to repair the drinking taps, after that we hope the problem will be resolved. More than 25 filters are being repaired." The communiqué further assured that all efforts are being made to ensure the availability of safe drinking water for everyone on the campus.
