The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has initiated ward-wise drain cleaning and road repair operations to mitigate monsoon-related challenges. Officials are also conducting inspections of damaged roads, unsafe hoardings, and drainage systems across the city.
Recurring Monsoon Problems
Waterlogging, overflowing drains, potholed roads, garbage accumulation, traffic disruptions, and precarious hoardings are persistent issues in areas such as Main Road, Harmu, Lalpur, Ratu Road, and several inner residential localities during heavy rainfall.
Official Statements
Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav stated, “The corporation has intensified pre-monsoon preparations to minimize disruptions. Drain cleaning is being carried out in all wards on a roster basis. Teams have been instructed to ensure timely removal of silt and garbage to facilitate smooth rainwater flow and curb waterlogging.”
“Teams have been deployed to identify and remove dead trees. Pruning work will also be undertaken to prevent accidents during strong winds and heavy rain,” he added.
Resident Concerns
Manoj Gupta, a fruit vendor at Kokar, remarked, “Even light rainfall leads to waterlogging and affects business. Drains overflow and garbage accumulates. Every year, work is done before monsoon, but the problems return.”
Amit Kumar, a resident of Harmu, commented, “Cleaning before rain is important, but a permanent drainage system is needed.”
The RMC's proactive measures aim to address these recurring issues, though residents emphasize the need for long-term infrastructure solutions.
