In a significant move to tackle persistent traffic woes, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is planning to establish a dedicated auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw stand near the bustling Naga Baba Khatal vendor market. This initiative aims to decongest the area's busy roads and bring order to chaotic parking.
Inspection Reveals Chronic Congestion Issues
The plan came to the forefront following an inspection of the area led by RMC administrator Sushant Gaurav on Monday. Senior officials noted that unregulated parking of autos and e-rickshaws was causing chronic traffic snarls. These jams, as reported by locals, severely affect shoppers, vendors, and daily commuters. The congestion is also impacting the smooth flow of incoming traffic from the Ratu Road flyover.
A Comprehensive Plan for Civic Improvement
The proposed transport stand is likely to be built on RMC land adjacent to the vendor market, creating an organized zone for vehicles. "The initiative is aimed at improving customer experience, ensuring better traffic management and rational, optimum utilisation of government land," stated Gaurav. However, the civic body's vision extends beyond just traffic management.
A comprehensive plan is being chalked out to upgrade overall civic amenities. During the inspection, officials reviewed the condition of existing toilets and the ongoing construction of new sanitation facilities. Directives were issued to ensure regular cleaning of the entire market area and to expedite the completion of all civil works.
Broader Market Revamp Underway
The RMC is also developing a new parking area and a shelter facility within the market. Enforcement teams have been instructed to prevent vendors from encroaching on roads or public land. Simultaneously, the sanitation wing has been directed to continue its cleanliness drives. In a progressive step, discussions are underway to gradually transition the market into a plastic-free zone.
"This is about improving the everyday experience whether for a vegetable seller, a customer, or a passerby while making optimum use of public land," Gaurav added, encapsulating the project's holistic goal. The move signifies a focused effort by the RMC to solve a long-standing problem while systematically enhancing the infrastructure and hygiene of a key city market.
