The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has initiated renovation and beautification works costing Rs 30 lakh at the KCP-VMC pylon situated near Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in the city. These works are being funded under the 15th Finance Commission and are scheduled for completion by the end of this month.
Scope of Renovation Works
According to VMC park section executive engineer Prabhakar Rao, the renovation encompasses several key activities. The old and damaged granite flooring surrounding the structure will be replaced with new tiles. Damaged portions at the base of the pylon will be restored, and brickwork near the statues surrounding the site will be repaired. Additionally, stainless steel railings will be installed to enhance safety and aesthetics.
Decorative Lighting and Bollard Lights
As part of the beautification efforts, decorative lighting and bollard lights are being installed. These additions aim to improve the visual appeal of the pylon, especially during evening hours, making it a more attractive landmark for residents and visitors alike.
Reasons for Renovation
Officials noted that the lower portion of the structure had developed damage over time due to exposure and usage, necessitating these repair works. The KCP-VMC pylon holds historical significance as it was built to commemorate the centenary celebrations of the Vijayawada municipality, which was established in 1888. Located on a prominent stretch near Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, the pylon is a key landmark in the city.
The renovation project is expected to be completed within the current month, restoring the pylon to its former glory and enhancing the overall environment of the area.
