The Public Works Department (PWD) has invited tenders worth Rs 40.6 crore for the construction of a new integrated district administrative complex named ‘Praja Saudha’ in Belagavi. This marks a significant step towards streamlining government services at the district headquarters.
The proposed building will be constructed adjacent to the existing deputy commissioner's office and aims to bring multiple government departments under one roof. Officials stated that the move is intended to ease the burden on citizens, who currently have to travel to different parts of the city to access various services.
Project Design and Features
According to the project plan, the structure will comprise a basement, a stilt floor, and three upper floors. The basement will be designated for parking, a feature expected to help decongest traffic in the busy administrative area. The ground level will house a public service centre, waiting areas, and service counters to facilitate citizen-centric operations.
Key administrative offices, including those of the deputy commissioner and divisional commissioner, will be located on the upper floors, ensuring centralised governance and improved coordination among departments.
Structural Specifications
The building will be constructed using an RCC frame structure. The basement will have a height of 3.6 metres, while each of the upper floors will measure 4 metres in height. The structure will rise to 21 metres above ground level, with an additional central dome of 10.5 metres, taking the total height to 31.5 metres.
The design also incorporates landscaped gardens, open spaces, and internal roadways, along with a prominent central dome facing the main road on the northern side. Officials noted that the integrated complex is expected to enhance accessibility, improve service delivery, and provide a more organised administrative environment for the public.
Official Statement
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said: 'Once completed, Praja Saudha is expected to serve as a one-stop hub for all district-level services, significantly improving citizen convenience and administrative efficiency.'
The project is a key initiative to centralise administrative functions and reduce the need for citizens to visit multiple locations. With modern amenities and a focus on accessibility, the complex aims to set a benchmark for district-level governance in Karnataka.
