Major Boost for Karnataka's NH-275 as Union Government Releases Rs 94 Crore
Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar has confirmed a significant financial injection for a critical highway in Karnataka. The Union government has sanctioned Rs 94 crore specifically for strengthening National Highway 275 between Sampaje and Kushalnagar.
Addressing Longstanding Landslide Threats
This highway stretch has faced severe challenges since 2018. Heavy monsoon rains triggered multiple landslides along the route. Several areas near the road became unstable each rainy season, posing a constant collapse threat. Authorities have only managed temporary relief works until now.
Yaduveer Wadiyar emphasized this funding will enable permanent solutions. He stated the money will support comprehensive development work on one of Karnataka's busiest highways. The MP shared details through an official press statement.
Detailed Safety Improvements Planned
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued formal orders granting both financial and technical approval. The project focuses on constructing protective structures in selected vulnerable sections.
According to the ministry's technical report, the work will include:
- Construction of reinforced concrete cantilever retaining walls stretching 1,650 meters
- Installation of 110 meters of pressure relief walls on the valley side
- Building breast walls and improved drainage systems
- Reconstruction of existing culverts
- Improvement of dangerous curves along the route
The project also addresses road width concerns. Workers will widen 1,690 meters of highway at seventeen specifically chosen locations. This expansion aims directly at enhancing overall road safety.
Modern Safety Features and Strict Quality Control
Beyond structural improvements, the highway will receive contemporary safety installations. Protective crash barriers will line vulnerable sections. Modern traffic signs will provide clearer guidance to drivers navigating this challenging terrain.
Yaduveer Wadiyar confirmed the project follows an ambitious timeline. Contractors must complete all work within eighteen months. Furthermore, they will remain responsible for maintenance for an entire decade after completion.
