A case has been registered against Moradabad's district coordinator (community participation) for alleged extortion in admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The accused, Amit Kumar Singh, is responsible for handling RTE admissions in private schools. He has been accused of demanding Rs 1 lakh per student to secure seats in reputed institutions.
Allegations and Complaints
School owners complained that Singh reduced student numbers during U-DISE meetings to limit RTE admissions in prominent schools, while blaming institutions for charging hefty donations. The allegations surfaced during an RTE meeting chaired by Moradabad district magistrate Dr Rajendra Pensiya.
Legal Action
Following the meeting, an FIR was lodged at Munda Pandey police station under multiple sections. Singh had earlier been investigated by a two-member education department committee, found guilty, and suspended by the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA). SHO Munda Pandey confirmed the FIR registration and said that a probe is underway.
Previous Irregularities
Irregularities in RTE admissions for underprivileged children continue to surface across Uttar Pradesh. In 2025, a major racket in Bijnor exposed how seats reserved for economically weaker sections (EWS) were sold by a local clerk with alleged involvement of the district BSA. An FIR was filed against the clerk, and a show-cause notice was served to the BSA.
RTE Act Provisions
The RTE Act mandates private unaided schools to reserve at least 25% of seats for children from disadvantaged groups between the ages of 6 and 14, ensuring free and compulsory education.
