SC Collegium Recommends 19 Judges for Madras HC

The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of 19 judicial officers and advocates as judges of the Madras High Court. In a meeting held on Monday, the collegium approved three distinct proposals for judge appointments forwarded by the state government to the Union law minister and subsequently to the collegium.

Current Strength and Vacancies

At present, the Madras High Court operates with 52 judges, while its sanctioned strength stands at 75, comprising 54 permanent and 19 additional judges. Notably, 23 judge positions remain vacant in the High Court.

List of Recommended Candidates

The collegium has recommended the following judicial officers: P Murugan, M D Sumathi, S Alli, C Thirumagal Chandrasekar, Dharmalingam Lingeswaran, Shri Karthikeyan Balathandayutham, Shanmugam Karthikeyan, Baluchamy Murugesan, and N Gunasekaran. Additionally, the following advocates have been recommended: Natarajan Ramesh, G K Muthukumaar, Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan, Sankaranarayanan Raveekumar, Nagarajan Dilip Kumar, Ellappan Manoharan, Krishnaswamy Govindarajan, Rajnish Pathiyil, K Appadurai alias Kandavel Appadurai, and Ramasamy Anitha.

These individuals will be appointed as judges following the assent of the President of India.
