The partial closure of Shastri Bridge connecting Jhunsi and Daraganj in Prayagraj caused significant traffic congestion on both sides during peak hours on Thursday. Traffic police authorities, however, attributed the snarls to a section of motorists who deviated from their designated lanes, causing inconvenience to other commuters.
Traffic Management Measures
The traffic police handled the situation with care, implementing measures to ease the flow. Commuters have been advised to strictly adhere to their assigned lanes to avoid further disruptions. A senior traffic police official stated that one lane of the bridge, which was scheduled to be closed for 43 days starting June 3, has been partially opened for two-wheelers. The concerned agencies have initiated repair work, and the lane remains open for light vehicular movement until the repair work begins in earnest.
Additional Police Deployment
To streamline vehicular movement during peak hours, additional policemen have been deployed at key points on and around the bridge. The police are monitoring traffic closely and ensuring that motorists follow lane discipline. Commuters are urged to cooperate with traffic authorities and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays.
The partial closure is part of essential repair works on the bridge, which is a vital link in the city's transportation network. Authorities are working to minimize inconvenience to the public while ensuring the structural integrity of the bridge is maintained.
