Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has called upon citizens to voluntarily participate in the self-enumeration process for Census 2027 by using a specially designed QR code and extending their full cooperation to the administration. He made this appeal during the launch of the first phase of the Census 2027 self-enumeration initiative at the Thane Municipal Corporation headquarters on Friday morning.
Launch Event Highlights
The civic body has developed a QR code specifically for this exercise. The event was attended by Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal, Deputy Mayor Krishna Patil, and other dignitaries. The first phase of Census 2027, which begins with the self-enumeration process, was officially launched on May 1, 2026, and will remain active until May 15, 2026, according to officials.
Shinde Participates in Self-Enumeration
Eknath Shinde personally completed the self-enumeration using the QR code and encouraged everyone present to do the same. Following this, Deputy Director of the Census Directorate Ramesh Bhosale presented him with a memento. Shinde stated, “The government is fully committed to the development and welfare of every individual in the state, and to achieve this, reliable and accurate data is the most effective tool.”
Awareness Initiatives
A selfie point created by the municipal corporation to raise awareness about the census was also inaugurated during the event. To further promote awareness, the Central Government has introduced mascots named “Vikas” (Development) and “Pragati” (Progress). Officials confirmed that a help desk has been set up at the Thane Municipal Corporation headquarters to assist citizens with the self-enumeration process.
Call for Cooperation
Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao urged citizens to cooperate with enumerators who will be visiting households and to provide accurate information. He emphasized that “the data collected will be kept confidential.” The administration is hopeful that the self-enumeration process will streamline data collection and ensure a comprehensive census for the year 2027.
