SHIMLA: At least six tourists from Gujarat lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries after a tempo traveller plunged into a deep gorge in the Chowari subdivision of Chamba district early Monday morning. The tragic incident occurred on the Lohru–Dalhousie road when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. All six victims died on the spot, while the injured were promptly shifted to a government hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identities of the deceased.
Second Major Accident in a Month
This marks the second serious tempo traveller accident in Himachal Pradesh within a span of one month. In April, a similar vehicle fell into a gorge near Jalori Jot in Kullu district, resulting in the deaths of three tourists and injuries to 17 others. The recurring incidents have raised concerns about road safety and vehicle maintenance on the hilly terrain.
Response and Investigation
Local police and rescue teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. The injured are under observation at the district hospital, and their condition is reported to be stable. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether mechanical failure or driver error played a role.
The state government has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured all possible assistance to the injured. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with travel on mountainous roads, especially during adverse weather conditions.
