Sumit Kumar Takes Charge as Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway
In a significant administrative development within the Indian Railways, Sumit Kumar has officially assumed the role of Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) for the North Eastern Railway (NER) in Gorakhpur. The appointment, which took effect on Thursday, marks a new chapter in the railway's public communication and media relations strategy.
Career Background and Professional Journey
Prior to this promotion, Sumit Kumar served as the Deputy Chief Commercial Manager (FM) at the NER headquarters, where he gained extensive experience in commercial operations and management. His educational credentials include a postgraduate degree (MSc) from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, which he completed in 2007.
Sumit Kumar's railway career began in 2010 when he joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). He started his professional journey in the railways as an Assistant Operations Manager in the Katihar division of the Northeast Frontier Railway, demonstrating his early commitment to operational excellence and public service.
Administrative Changes and Transfers
This appointment comes alongside other administrative reshuffles within the North Eastern Railway. The outgoing CPRO, Pankaj Kumar Singh, has been reassigned to a new position as Senior Divisional Engineer (Coordination) in the Lucknow division of NER. This transfer reflects the ongoing optimization of human resources and expertise across different railway divisions to enhance operational efficiency.
The transition of leadership in the CPRO role is expected to bring fresh perspectives to NER's public relations initiatives, particularly in addressing media communications, stakeholder engagement, and public information dissemination. As CPRO, Sumit Kumar will be responsible for managing the railway's image, handling press interactions, and ensuring transparent communication with the public and media outlets.
This development underscores the continuous evolution of administrative structures within Indian Railways, aimed at improving service delivery and public accountability. The appointment of experienced officers like Sumit Kumar highlights the organization's focus on leveraging internal talent and expertise for key leadership positions.
