Udhagamandalam: Tamil Nadu Minister for Animal Husbandry, S Kamali, conducted an inspection of the frozen semen production station for stud bulls located in the Theetukal area of Ooty on Friday. The station operates at the district livestock farm, which is managed by the Animal Husbandry Department.
Inspection Details
During the inspection, the minister inquired about ongoing research activities and the frozen semen production processes being undertaken at the site. She also held consultations with officials regarding reformative measures that need to be implemented within the livestock care centre to improve efficiency and output.
Facility Overview
The facility spans over 130 acres and houses more than 80 stud bulls. It specializes in breeding Jersey and Holstein Friesian (HF) cattle. The frozen semen produced from these stud bulls is distributed to various parts of Tamil Nadu, contributing to the state's dairy sector.
Laboratory and Quality
Various diagnostic tests and analyses are regularly conducted in the on-site laboratory. The semen produced through this modern laboratory ensures a 93% probability of female calves, which is beneficial for dairy farming as female calves are more valuable for milk production.
The minister's visit underscores the government's commitment to enhancing livestock breeding practices and supporting the dairy industry in Tamil Nadu.
