The directorate of private schools in Tamil Nadu has issued an order mandating all private nursery, primary, matriculation, CBSE, and other board schools in the state to display their approved tuition fee details on their notice boards on or before June 5. This directive comes shortly after the Tamil Nadu information commission ruled that a school's fee structure constitutes public information and instructed the director of private schools, S Suganya, to ensure compliance by June 15.
Display Requirements
According to the order, school heads and principals must prominently display the tuition fee structure fixed by the fee determination committee for public viewing. This information must be placed on notice boards as well as on the respective school websites. Additionally, schools are required to print and provide class-wise tuition fee details in the student admission application forms.
Enforcement and Deadlines
The director has instructed all district education officers (private schools) to conduct inspections within their jurisdictions to ensure compliance. They must submit a report to the directorate on or before June 10, 2026. Suganya stated, "Photo evidence along with acknowledgement of compliance will be obtained from schools and maintained in the office records to show proof of implementation. Every school must strictly oblige to this, failing which a government notice will be issued to them."
The information commission, in its order issued on May 29, had requested a compliance report from the directorate by June 15. This latest directive reinforces the commission's decision and aims to bring transparency to school fee structures across the state.
