Three-tier security at Vijayawada temple for safer darshan

Vijayawada: In a bid to tighten security and streamline crowd management at the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy temple atop Indrakeeladri, temple authorities are planning to introduce a three-tier security screening system for devotees, with restrictions on mobile phone usage and luggage checks also under consideration.

Temple executive officer V K Seena Naik on Monday said the proposed measures were aimed at ensuring safer and smoother darshan for the growing number of devotees visiting the shrine. Under the new system, devotees will have to undergo security checks at three separate points before entering the temple premises.

Officials said devotees holding darshan tickets would be required to produce them at designated screening points, while arrangements would be made to ensure uninterrupted access to the Sarva Darshan queue for general devotees.

The EO said authorities were also examining the feasibility of introducing a mobile phone control mechanism within the temple premises, citing operational and security concerns arising from unrestricted phone usage. Alternative facilities for depositing mobile phones and luggage are being explored, while the installation of baggage scanners is also under consideration.

The proposals were discussed at a high-level review meeting attended by city police officials, temple authorities and Vedic staff. Temple authorities said security arrangements would be strengthened ahead of upcoming festivals and special events, while ensuring that darshan for common devotees is not affected.
