TNPDCL Launches App to Speed Up Electricity Connections and Grievance Redressal
TNPDCL App Speeds Up Power Connections, Reduces Delays

Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Launches Mobile App to Revolutionize Electricity Services

In a significant move to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction, the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TNPDCL) has introduced a groundbreaking mobile phone application-based functionality. This innovative system is designed to accelerate the process of obtaining new electricity connections and effectively address consumer complaints, marking a major step forward in digital governance.

Seamless Integration for Faster Service Delivery

The new application seamlessly integrates the low-tension service connection process with the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This integration eliminates previous bottlenecks and manual errors, ensuring a smoother and more transparent workflow. Under this revamped system, assistant engineers in specific areas will receive application details directly on their mobile devices.

They can then assign these applications to commercial assistants and inspectors for immediate field studies. Officers on the ground can update forms with required materials and generate estimates on the spot, significantly reducing the time traditionally taken to process applications.

Eliminating Delays and Inefficiencies

TNPDCL Chief Engineer for Information Technology, Niraimathi, highlighted the transformative impact of this integration. "Previously, engineers had to manually feed entries into the system, leading to delays and multiple estimates for the same application due to the lack of synchronization between ERP and the application process," she explained. "This issue is now resolved. Additionally, meter installations can no longer be postponed, as service numbers will only be allocated after meters are securely fixed."

The GIS mapping initiative, which began in 2022 to catalog all TNPDCL assets from substations to consumer meters, has been extended to the new service connection process. This ensures that any new assets created for fresh connections are accurately mapped from the outset, enhancing asset management and operational efficiency.

Pilot Success and Future Expansion

The project was initially implemented on a pilot basis in the Madurai and Tirunelveli regions, where it demonstrated notable success in streamlining operations. Starting in March, TNPDCL plans to roll out this system across the entire state, making it accessible to all consumers in Tamil Nadu.

In its first phase, the scheme will cover all low-tension services, excluding group-housing applications. TNPDCL Director A Selvakumar confirmed that subsequent phases will expand the functionality to include high-tension services, utility shifting works, and turnkey projects, further broadening its impact on the state's power infrastructure.

This initiative not only promises to reduce bureaucratic red tape but also aims to improve transparency and accountability in power distribution. By leveraging technology, TNPDCL is setting a new standard for utility services in India, ensuring that consumers experience faster and more reliable electricity connections.
