Trichy MP Durai Vaiko on Wednesday announced that the Fort station railway road overbridge (RoB), also known as the Maris RoB, will be completed by September 2026. The MP conducted an inspection of five key infrastructure projects, including bridges and a link road, aimed at decongesting Trichy city. He noted that a shortage of LPG affecting fabrication work and the mass exodus of guest workers from Assam and West Bengal to participate in their state assembly elections have delayed progress.
Project Updates and Timelines
Vaiko stated that the Southern Railway and the state highways department have been urged to complete ongoing works according to the new schedule. He emphasized that people are suffering due to traffic diversions and that further delays will not be tolerated.
Trichy Junction RoB and Other Bridges
The MP confirmed that the Trichy junction RoB (stage II), which includes the bow string girder bridge near Trichy railway junction, is scheduled for completion by December 2026. Officials informed him about mobilizing a temporary girder from Katpadi to position the new girder above the tracks. For the Trichy town station RoB under construction near Devathanam, administrative delays have been resolved, and the project is expected to be finished by August 2027.
Vaiko also inspected works for the new four-lane high-level bridge across the Koraiyar river, connecting the Panjapur integrated bus terminus (KKBT) with E Pudur. This bridge is slated for completion by January 2027.
Link Road and Airport Runway Expansion
The MP reviewed the link road on the banks of the Koraiyar river proposed by the Trichy corporation. Work for the first two phases of the link road is progressing, while administrative sanction is awaited for the third phase. Regarding the Trichy airport runway expansion, land acquisition is complete, and the detailed project report (DPR) has been sent to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The project outlay is estimated at Rs 350 crore. For safety reasons, it was insisted to change the soil condition near the runway. Once the runway is expanded, modification work will be undertaken on the old runway area.
