Trichy Residents Push for Updated Street Signboards with New Ward Numbers

Residents in Trichy are urging the local corporation to update street signboards with new ward and zone numbers. This demand comes nearly four years after the corporation changed ward numbers and added a new zone. Many existing signboards still display old numbers or lack ward details entirely.

Confusion Over Jurisdiction Details

People in the city report widespread confusion about the new ward and zone numbers. Most residents do not know their specific jurisdiction details. This lack of information causes problems when accessing local services or completing documentation.

H Ghouse Baig, a resident of Khajamalai, explained the situation. "Only a few residents who frequently visit local body offices for services know their ward numbers and zone details. Displaying these numbers on street signboards would be very helpful for everyone," he said.

Recent Example of Improvement

The corporation recently took a small step forward. It restored a damaged street signboard on Thennur Anna Nagar Uzhavar Sandhai Road near Pattabiraman Street in ward 27. A new sticker was added to the signboard. This sticker includes ward and zone numbers alongside the pin code.

Local residents appreciated this updated signboard. They noted it helps people become familiar with their jurisdiction details. However, this remains an isolated case rather than a widespread effort.

Delays in Implementation

Trichy corporation council recently announced plans to update reflective blue stickers on street signboards with new ward numbers. Despite this announcement, the actual work has not yet started. Sources indicate a key reason for the delay.

The city is heading for an expansion by amalgamating at least 20 village panchayats. The local body is waiting for this expansion process to complete. Once finished, the corporation plans to renovate signboards, including those in newly added areas.

Residents' Persistent Demand

Residents continue to emphasize the importance of updated signboards. They argue that clear signage is essential for effective local governance. Without it, many people struggle to navigate administrative processes.

The situation highlights a gap between policy changes and practical implementation. As Trichy grows, ensuring accurate public information becomes increasingly critical. Residents hope the corporation will prioritize this issue soon.
