Udupi Municipal Council Cracks Down on Improper Waste Disposal
The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) has issued a stern directive to all residents, apartment complexes, and commercial establishments, prohibiting the release of wastewater into stormwater drainage systems designed exclusively for rainwater flow. This move comes as part of a broader initiative to address sanitation and public health concerns within the city.
Mandatory Soak Pit Construction and Wastewater Compliance
In an official release from the Municipal Commissioner's office, the public has been instructed to construct soak pits on their premises for proper wastewater disposal. The council emphasizes that all wastewater must be managed in strict accordance with established municipal regulations. Authorities have warned that any violation, including the discharge of contaminated water into storm drains, will result in stringent legal action under the provisions of the Municipal Act. Such improper disposal poses significant risks to public health by potentially contaminating water sources and creating unsanitary conditions.
Crackdown on Solid Waste Dumping in Public Spaces
Simultaneously, the CMC has highlighted a growing issue with solid waste management. Observations indicate that daily waste from households, apartments, and commercial entities—including garden waste—is being indiscriminately dumped in public areas and along roadsides. This practice severely undermines the city's sanitation and cleanliness standards.
To combat this, residents are strongly advised to compost wet waste within their own premises wherever feasible. For those unable to do so, the municipal council mandates that all waste must be handed over directly to official municipal waste collection vehicles during scheduled pickups. The CMC has explicitly cautioned that individuals found dumping waste in public spaces will face legal repercussions, reinforcing the city's commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy urban environment.
These comprehensive measures underscore the Udupi Municipal Council's proactive approach to enforcing waste management protocols, aiming to safeguard community health and enhance the overall livability of the city through stricter compliance and public cooperation.
