Prayagraj: Acknowledging the drinking water crisis in Pratapgarh district caused by continuously depleting groundwater levels, the state government has initiated the construction of new water storage tanks. Under the 'Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban)' scheme, three water storage tanks will be built in the Raniganj Nagar Panchayat of Pratapgarh district. The administration has taken steps in response to the drinking water shortage in the area, which is particularly severe in regions adjacent to the district headquarters.
Project Details and Timeline
The construction responsibility has been assigned to the executing agency, Jal Jeevan Mission, Prayagraj. Executive Engineer (Jal Jeevan Mission (Urban), Prayagraj), Amit Raj, stated that land has been identified for the three tanks in Raniganj Nagar Panchayat. Drinking water supply is expected to commence by March of next year, with the project incurring an expenditure of Rs 33 crore.
He claimed, “Addressing the issue of clean drinking water across the 16 wards of Raniganj Nagar Panchayat, construction work on three tanks—with a combined capacity of 26.5 lakh liters—is expected to begin by the end of June. The tendering process for the construction has been completed. The individual capacities of the tanks will be 5.5 lakh, 14 lakh, and 7 lakh litres.”
Infrastructure and Beneficiaries
Twenty-one pumps, each with a capacity of 15 horsepower, will be installed to supply water to these tanks. This initiative will provide clean drinking water to a population of approximately 20,000 residents starting next March. These tanks will supply drinking water to the town's wards: Beethalpur, Todar Patti, Madhavapur, Nidhi Patti, Kayasth Patti, Sandila, Pachras, Dariyapur, Savaiya, Purebhogi, Sarai Sultani, Bhagipur, and Rastipur.
