The Uttar Pradesh government has permanently deployed a platoon of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in Mathura, a month after 16 pilgrims from Punjab lost their lives in a boat tragedy on the Yamuna near Keshi Ghat in Mathura-Vrindavan. This move aims to improve emergency response in the district.
Round-the-Clock Relief Operations
Officials stated that the SDRF platoon will conduct round-the-clock relief and rescue operations during emergencies. SSP Shlok Kumar confirmed that the platoon comprises 36 personnel trained to handle floods, drowning incidents, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
Faster Response Time
Previously, SDRF teams had to be called from Lucknow and Ghaziabad during emergencies, causing delays. Now, with the team stationed within the district, response time will be significantly faster, ensuring quicker assistance to those in need.
Monsoon Preparedness
The deployment is also expected to aid during monsoon floods when the Yamuna River breaches danger levels in the temple town. This proactive measure will bolster safety for both local residents and the millions of pilgrims visiting Mathura annually.
The permanent presence of the SDRF underscores the government's commitment to disaster management and public safety in the region.
