Uttar Pradesh Government Celebrates Women's Day with Empowerment Initiatives
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Uttar Pradesh government highlighted a series of comprehensive steps aimed at improving the lives of women across the state, with a strong focus on empowerment and security. A government spokesperson emphasized the ongoing efforts to foster self-reliance and safety for women, underscoring the state's commitment to gender equality.
Mission Shakti: A Cornerstone for Women's Empowerment
Launched in 2020, the Mission Shakti campaign has been instrumental in driving women's empowerment and self-reliance. This initiative has worked tirelessly to create opportunities and support systems for women, enabling them to achieve greater independence and contribute actively to society.
Enhanced Security Measures Across the State
To ensure the safety of women, the government has implemented robust security protocols. 1,694 Anti Romeo Squads are currently active throughout Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the registration of 24,871 cases and the arrest of 33,268 accused individuals. Additionally, under the Safe City scheme, 7,95,699 CCTV cameras have been installed across 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddha Nagar, with 4,150 hotspots identified for enhanced monitoring.
In Lucknow, a special initiative saw the establishment of 100 Pink Booths, dedicated specifically to addressing crimes against women and providing swift assistance.
Skill Development and Economic Empowerment
The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission is playing a pivotal role in equipping women with valuable skills. Women are being trained in over 1,300 different jobs spanning nearly 35 sectors, including:
- Information Technology
- Healthcare
- Fashion Designing
- Electronics
- Beauty and Wellness
- Retail
This training has contributed to a significant increase in women's labour participation, which rose from 13% to 36% over the past nine years.
Financial Inclusion and Support Programs
Under the Lakhpati Mahila Yojana, more than 33 lakh women have been identified, with over 18 lakh women already achieving the status of lakhpati, marking a milestone in economic empowerment. Furthermore, BC Sakhi workers have facilitated financial transactions worth more than Rs 40,000 crore, earning a dividend of Rs 109 crore, showcasing the financial impact of these initiatives.
The 181 Women Helpline Scheme has provided crucial assistance to 8.42 lakh women, offering support in times of need and reinforcing the government's dedication to women's welfare.
These efforts collectively demonstrate the Uttar Pradesh government's proactive approach to enhancing the status and security of women, aligning with the spirit of International Women's Day.
