The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday informed a Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court that the process for conducting safety audits of school buildings across the state would commence in the near future. The court was also apprised that meetings between government officials and school managements had been constructive, and that effective proposals concerning traffic management around educational institutions would be submitted to the court shortly.
Next Hearing Fixed for July 16
Taking note of the submissions, the bench comprising Justice Alok Mathur and Justice B R Singh fixed July 16 as the next date of hearing in the matter. The order was passed in response to a public interest litigation filed by the Gomti River Bank Residents.
Meetings Yield Suggestions
During the hearing, the state government informed the court that two rounds of meetings had already been conducted with school managements and government officials. Several suggestions emerged from these discussions aimed at improving traffic arrangements around educational institutions in Lucknow and other cities in Uttar Pradesh.
The court expressed satisfaction with the progress and directed the government to ensure timely implementation of the safety audit process. The bench also emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between all stakeholders to enhance the safety and security of school children.
