The Uttar Pradesh Police in the Mainpuri district have initiated a campaign to identify children from economically disadvantaged families who are not attending school and facilitate their enrollment in nearby government schools. Launched on Wednesday, the drive has already resulted in the admission of over 100 children.
Police officials clarified that the initiative is entirely voluntary and not mandated by any government directive. In addition to assisting with admissions, officers have arranged school bags, uniforms, shoes, and other study materials for the enrolled children.
Police Commitment Beyond Law Enforcement
Mainpuri Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha emphasized that the role of the police extends beyond maintaining law and order. He stated, “Connecting needy and deprived sections of society with the mainstream is also an important duty of the police. Ensuring education for children is one of the greatest services to society and the nation’s future.”
Mayank Chaudhary, Station House Officer of Sahpau police station, shared that he visited villages during his free time. “During these visits, I found 27 children from poor and nomadic families who had never been enrolled in school. We helped get them admitted,” he said.
Identifying Children in Temporary Huts
Musran SHO Arvind Saxena reported that his team identified 11 children living with their families in temporary huts outside villages over the past three days. “When we interacted with the parents, we realized many were unaware of the admission process and government facilities available for children. Our team took the children to a nearby primary school and completed their admission,” he explained.
Mahila Thana SHO Ritu Tomar noted that her team has so far helped enroll 10 children and is actively identifying more such cases. “I have asked village heads and local sources to inform us about children who are not going to school so that they can also be brought into the education system,” she said.
Alignment with State Education Goals
An official stated that the campaign aligns with the Uttar Pradesh government’s push for universal education and encourages participation from all departments to bring children into schools. The initiative reflects a collaborative effort to ensure every child has access to education.
