UP Government Launches Probe into Moradabad Mass Marriage Irregularities
The Uttar Pradesh government has taken decisive action following reports of irregularities in a mass marriage ceremony organized by the social welfare department in Moradabad. Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun has constituted a three-member committee to thoroughly investigate the matter, which occurred during a ceremony held on December 5 last year.
Minister's Directive and Committee Mandate
Minister Asim Arun issued the orders on Tuesday, emphasizing that no negligence, irregularity, or corruption will be tolerated in social welfare schemes. The committee has been tasked with conducting an on-site investigation and must submit its comprehensive report to the minister by February 12.
Nature of Complaints Received
A senior official from the social welfare department revealed that multiple complaints have been received regarding the mass marriage event. These complaints include:
- Failure to provide couples with the prescribed marriage gift materials
- Distribution of poor quality gift items to newlyweds
- Conducting marriages for more than 100 couples, exceeding the prescribed maximum limit
The complaints reportedly came from various sources, including some of the couples who participated in the mass marriage ceremony.
Committee Composition and Investigation Scope
The investigation panel comprises experienced officials from the social welfare department:
- Joint Director PK Tripathi
- Deputy Director Amarjeet Singh
- District Social Welfare Officer Anamika Singh
The committee will conduct a detailed examination of all aspects of the mass marriage ceremony, including verification of beneficiary lists, assessment of distributed materials, and review of procedural compliance.
Government's Stance on Accountability
Minister Asim Arun has made it clear that the government will take strict action against any officers or concerned persons found guilty based on the committee's findings. This move underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of social welfare schemes across Uttar Pradesh.
The investigation comes at a time when the state government is emphasizing proper implementation of welfare programs, particularly those benefiting marginalized communities through initiatives like mass marriage ceremonies.
