UP Reviews Ganga Expressway, Defence Corridor Progress

In a significant push to accelerate infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Secretary S.P. Goyal conducted a high-level review of several mega projects. The meeting of the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) in Lucknow on Thursday focused on critical timelines and progress for key initiatives spanning expressways, industrial corridors, and specialized parks.

Key Infrastructure Projects Get Deadline Push

The review covered a wide array of projects crucial for the state's economic growth. Chief Secretary Goyal emphasized the need for timely completion and directed officials to adhere to strict deadlines. The Ganga Expressway, a flagship project, received specific instructions to have all works completed before February 15, 2025. This includes the remaining carriageway, service roads, wayside amenities, and the implementation of a smart traffic management system.

Officials presented a detailed progress report on the expressway. Work on 1,497 structures is already complete. Out of the total 578.03 kilometers of carriageway, 567.53 km has been finished, with the remaining stretch slated for completion by January 31. For the service roads, 547.48 km out of 730.85 km is ready.

Industrial Corridors and Parks: Land Acquisition in Focus

A major thrust of the meeting was on expediting land acquisition for industrial development. For the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), the Chief Secretary directed officials to speed up the process. So far, 83.8% of the targeted 5,136.31 hectares has been acquired. The corridor has seen active interest from industries, with land allotted to 62 units and the process ongoing for another 113. Notably, 15 industries have begun setting up their facilities, and 9 have already commenced production.

Similarly, for the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA), officials were instructed to fast-track land acquisition. A crucial directive was given to ensure that the zonal and sector planning work under the BIDA Master Plan-2045 is finalized before March 31, 2026.

Progress on Medical and Pharma Parks

The review also highlighted advancements in specialized industrial parks. For the Medical Device Park in Gautam Budh Nagar, 300 acres have been acquired, with the remaining land acquisition expected to be wrapped up within the next three months.

Regarding the Pharma Park in Lalitpur, the project has obtained the necessary environmental clearance. Groundwork is currently in progress, focusing on the construction of internal roads, drainage systems, and power and water networks. The authorities have set a target completion date of September 26, 2026 for this park.

Concluding the review, Chief Secretary Goyal stressed the importance of continuous monitoring of all projects. He also issued a clear directive concerning land allotment to investors, stating, "Investors should also only be allotted available land, so that no problems arise in the future." This move aims to prevent delays and legal complications, ensuring a smoother path for industrial development across the state.
