Lucknow: Managing director of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL), Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday directed all power distribution companies (discoms) across the state to ensure uninterrupted power supply in strict adherence to scheduled rosters during the ongoing severe heatwave conditions. Reviewing the performance of power distribution utilities, Kumar emphasized the critical need for heightened vigilance by officials to maintain stability in electricity supply during the peak summer demand period.
Emphasis on Uninterrupted Supply
“With rising temperatures, it is crucial to ensure that all areas receive power without disruption,” Kumar stated. He underscored that consumers should not face any inconvenience due to power outages, especially during the extreme heatwave gripping the state. The MD directed senior officers to closely monitor power supply systems and ensure immediate replacement of damaged transformers within stipulated timelines. He stressed that restoration work must be carried out in the shortest possible time to minimize inconvenience to consumers.
Action Against Delays
Taking note of delays in project execution, Kumar sought explanations from officials in Muzaffarnagar and Amausi (Lucknow) zones. He warned that any negligence in maintaining power infrastructure would not be tolerated. Additionally, he directed regular monitoring of the ‘Jhatpat’ portal to ensure no applications remain pending. This portal is used for addressing consumer complaints and requests related to power supply.
The UPPCL MD’s directive comes as parts of Uttar Pradesh experience severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring above 45 degrees Celsius in several districts. The increased demand for electricity, driven by air conditioners and coolers, has put additional strain on the power grid. Officials have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock vigil and promptly address any faults or breakdowns.
Consumers are advised to report any power-related issues through the designated helpline numbers or the Jhatpat portal. The corporation has assured that all complaints will be resolved on a priority basis.
