Preparing for the Union Public Service Commission examination presented formidable obstacles. Between 2012 and 2014, Vanmathi conducted coaching classes to fund her studies while maintaining a grueling routine of daytime work and late-night preparation. She faced the civil services examination four times before achieving success in 2015, when she cleared the exam and joined the Indian Administrative Service with the Maharashtra cadre.

Vanmathi's administrative journey began with assignments in districts including Nandurbar and Dhule, along with postings in Mumbai. During her tenure as project officer of the Integrated Tribal Development Project in Nandurbar, she implemented significant welfare measures for tribal students:

As chief executive officer of the Dhule zilla parishad, she accelerated programs in health, education, and rural development. During the challenging Covid-19 pandemic period, she coordinated closely with health departments and village administrations to effectively contain infection spread.
