A meeting of the district environment committee, district Ganga committee, and district tree plantation committee was held on Tuesday at the Collectorate auditorium in Varanasi to review environmental conservation, Ganga conservation, and tree plantation programs in the district.
The meeting was chaired by District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar. It reviewed the distribution of 30,000 dustbins under the four-tier waste segregation system by the municipal corporation, disposal of legacy waste, e-waste management, and the campaign against single-use plastic. The DM emphasized the operation of water sprinklers and mist guns for air pollution control and strengthening the mechanized sweeping system for dust control.
Necessary directions were given for the conservation and revival of the Ganga and its tributaries. The proposed mechanized parking at Assi Ghat and proposals for a multi-modal logistic park were also reviewed.
The tree plantation targets for 2026-27, plantation sites, and verification and conservation work of saplings planted in previous years were discussed. Directives were given for replanting to replace dried plants and meet the targets in a time-bound manner while making coordinated efforts to enhance environmental conservation, cleanliness, and green cover.
Chief Development Officer Prakhar Kumar Singh, Divisional Forest Officer Swati Singh, along with other officials, were present on the occasion.
