Varanasi Set to Launch Eco-Friendly Golf Cart Service for Temple Devotees
The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to launch a dedicated golf cart service in the holy city of Varanasi, specifically designed to assist devotees of Lord Shiva in reaching the revered Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham. This innovative initiative aims to provide a convenient and environmentally sustainable transportation option for both common visitors and VIP guests traveling to the temple.
Service Launch Details and Operational Framework
The eco-friendly electric golf cart service is scheduled to commence operations on April 19, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Nagpal confirmed that the service will initially run from several strategic locations, including Raj Narayan Park (commonly known as Beniyabagh), Maidagin, and Kabir Chaura, directly to Gate No. 4 of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
Approximately 25 golf carts will be deployed at the launch, with plans to increase this number based on demand and operational success. The carts will operate daily from 3:00 AM to 11:00 PM, ensuring accessibility during peak pilgrimage hours. Two variants of golf carts will be utilized: one model with a seating capacity for six passengers and another capable of accommodating nine passengers, catering to different group sizes.
Enhanced Visitor Convenience and Environmental Benefits
This step has been implemented with a dual focus on improving passenger convenience and supporting environmental conservation efforts. Visitors will be required to park their vehicles at modern parking facilities available at Town Hall in Maidagin and Raj Narayan Park. From these parking hubs, they can seamlessly transition to the golf cart service for the remainder of their journey to Vishwanath Dham.
A fixed fare will be charged for using the golf cart service, making it an affordable and predictable transportation choice. The municipal administration has also expressed intentions to expand the service to additional locations in the future, further broadening its reach and utility for pilgrims and tourists alike.
