Varanasi LPG Supply Meeting Amid Iran-Israel Conflict

Varanasi Takes Proactive Steps to Secure LPG Supply Amidst Gulf Tensions

In response to the escalating Iran-Israel conflict and the resulting tense situation in Gulf countries, Varanasi divisional commissioner S Rajlingam convened a crucial meeting on Thursday. The gathering included divisional managers, area managers, sales managers, chief managers from all major oil companies, the chief manager of GAIL (India) Limited in Varanasi, and the district supply officer. The primary objective was to obtain comprehensive information regarding LPG supply in the district and implement measures to ensure its uninterrupted flow to consumers.

Current Supply Status and Challenges

During the meeting, sales officers from the oil companies provided detailed updates. They confirmed that domestic gas cylinders are being supplied regularly to consumers without major disruptions. However, they highlighted a significant increase in booking backlog, which has consequently extended delivery times for many households. This backlog is attributed to heightened demand and logistical adjustments in light of the international tensions.

Regarding commercial gas cylinders, the officers explained that permissions have been granted in several phases to supply essential areas. Institutions and establishments in these zones, upon submitting PNG applications, are receiving commercial gas cylinders based on their specific demands and applications. This targeted approach aims to prioritize critical sectors during the uncertain period.

Commissioner's Directives for Enhanced Efficiency

Commissioner Rajlingam issued a series of directives to streamline operations and improve consumer experience. He instructed the chief manager of GAIL (India) Limited, Varanasi, to ensure immediate updates on the portal for providing acknowledgement receipts to PNG applicants. This step will enable consumers to attach these receipts when demanding LPG cylinders from oil companies, facilitating a smoother and more transparent process.

The commissioner emphasized the importance of accurate information dissemination. Oil companies were directed to promptly address any false information published about supply issues. If such information is found incorrect, a rebuttal should be issued immediately. For genuine problems, swift resolution is mandated, accompanied by positive news updates to maintain public confidence.

Focus on Critical Institutions and Consumer Support

Given Varanasi's status as a major tourist and pilgrimage destination, the commissioner called for a meticulous assessment of educational institutions, medical facilities, hotels, and restaurants operating in the city. Unnecessary delays in gas supply to these entities must be avoided to support the city's infrastructure and accommodate the large influx of visitors.

To enhance consumer support, oil companies were directed to publish their helpline numbers prominently, allowing both commercial and domestic consumers to report problems or complaints. Immediate and proper resolution of these issues is a top priority. The following helpline numbers have been issued:

  • Indane Gas (Indian Oil Corporation Limited): 7004147913 and 9140213317
  • Bharat Gas (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited): 8960895554
  • Hindustan Gas (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited): 8655436745

Quality Assurance and Regular Inspections

In a move to uphold consumer rights and safety, Commissioner Rajlingam further directed all sales officers to conduct regular inspections of gas warehouses. This initiative aims to ensure that underweight cylinders are not supplied to consumers, maintaining trust and compliance with regulatory standards. These inspections are part of a broader effort to monitor supply chains and address any potential issues proactively.

The meeting underscored Varanasi's commitment to mitigating the impact of global conflicts on local essential services. By fostering collaboration between government officials and oil companies, the city aims to maintain a stable LPG supply, support its residents and visitors, and navigate the challenges posed by the Iran-Israel conflict with resilience and efficiency.
