Varanasi minister orders priority public works, monsoon readiness

Urban development and energy minister AK Sharma on Monday directed officials to complete public utility works on priority and ensure comprehensive monsoon preparedness to prevent waterlogging in urban areas.

Review meeting instructions

Chairing a review meeting of the Urban Development and Energy departments at the Circuit House, Sharma instructed urban local bodies to complete drain cleaning and strengthen drainage systems ahead of the rainy season. He stressed that waterlogging should not occur under any circumstances during the monsoon.

Cleanliness and greenery initiatives

The minister also directed officials to remove roadside filth and waste accumulated around dividers and undertake plantation drives to improve city aesthetics. Emphasising cleanliness and greenery, he said urban bodies should work with commitment to provide citizens with a clean, safe and better environment.

Development projects review

Reviewing ongoing and proposed development projects, Sharma instructed officials to ensure quality standards and timely completion of works. He also assessed the progress of various public welfare schemes related to urban development and issued necessary directions for their effective implementation.

Energy sector directives

On the energy front, the minister reviewed electricity supply arrangements, transformer capacity enhancement, replacement of faulty transformers and measures to strengthen the distribution network. He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply to consumers, particularly during the summer and monsoon seasons.

Sharma stressed the need to address potential technical disruptions proactively and ordered regular monitoring of complaints received through the 1912 electricity helpline to ensure prompt redressal.

Call for accountability

Stating that urban development and energy services directly impact the lives of citizens, he urged officials to work with sensitivity, accountability and coordination to provide better public services.
