Varanasi Commissioner Warns Agencies: Finish Sarnath Road, Kazzakpura Flyover on Time
Varanasi's Top Official Issues Deadline Warning to Infrastructure Agencies

In a decisive move, Varanasi's top administrative official has issued a firm ultimatum to agencies responsible for delayed infrastructure projects in the holy city. Divisional Commissioner S Rajalingam on Thursday made it clear that all pending works, including the much-anticipated Sarnath elevated road and the Kazzakpura flyover, must be completed within newly set timelines, failing which strict disciplinary measures will be initiated.

On-Site Inspection Reveals Persistent Delays

The warning came during a detailed review of projects that have consistently missed their original completion deadlines. On Wednesday afternoon, Rajalingam personally inspected the progress, starting with the UP Bridge Corporation's elevated road project connecting Sarnath to the Ring Road. He then proceeded to the construction site of the Kazzakpura flyover, a project notorious for blowing past multiple deadlines in the past. Officials indicated the flyover is now in its final stages, and the Commissioner instructed engineers to ensure no further delays occur.

Multiple Projects Under Scrutiny

The inspection tour was comprehensive. Beyond the major road projects, the Divisional Commissioner also examined the construction of the administrative block in Lalpur, the new building for Pandepur police station, and the library under construction at LT College by the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA). It was the library project that drew particular ire for its sluggish pace. Rajalingam expressed strong dissatisfaction and directed the concerned engineers to significantly accelerate the work, while emphatically stressing that quality standards must not be compromised in the rush to meet deadlines.

Accountability and Quality Are Non-Negotiable

Rajalingam delivered a clear message to all executing agencies present, including representatives from UP Bridge Corporation, VDA, and the Public Works Department (PWD). He cautioned that any deficiency or negligence at any stage of construction would lead to strict accountability and action against those responsible. The review underscores the administration's growing impatience with time and cost overruns on critical public infrastructure projects that are meant to ease traffic congestion and boost development in Varanasi.

The ball is now in the court of the agencies. With the Divisional Commissioner's stern warning and the threat of concrete action hanging over them, the focus will be on whether the revised deadlines for the Sarnath road, Kazzakpura flyover, and other projects are finally met, bringing relief to the city's residents.
